May we suggest some slippery self-love?
In our last post, we debunked some common beliefs with lube, shed the ridiculous shame around using and enjoying this magical, slippery substance and hailed lube as the wetter is better queen of sex care.
And with that, we gently remind you that May is International Masturbation Month — launched in the ’90s when a US Surgeon General was fired for saying the word masturbation out loud. Yes, really!
So, being the 1st of May, what better time to celebrate this glorious month and the importance of self-pleasure as a natural and healthy part of human sexuality by digging a little deeper into our exposé on lube!

Lubrication, the cornerstone of self-pleasure, in our opinion, enhances comfort, reducing friction, and elevates the overall experience. Because when it comes to solo time, good friction starts with less friction.
Let’s slip into something more comfortable and dive into the importance of knowing exactly what you’re putting in your body… keeping your pussy and the planet purrrrrring along happily.
How to choose the right lube
At Margo’s we stock two types - water based and oil based - all natural and toxin free ofc.
We recommend giving both a go - because bodies, moods, desires and needs call for different types, at different times:
Water-Based: The good all rounder! Clean, toy-safe, condom-friendly, and easy to wash off. Great for all kinds of sex and solo play. Not great for shower or water play.
Oil-Based: Rich, nourishing, and slow to evaporate. Not condom-safe, but ideal for massage, skin-on-skin, anal, shower play or longer sessions. Be careful with some types of oil based lube with bedsheets and some silicone toys.
What about silicone lubes or hybrids? Silicone-based lubes are known for their ultra-long-lasting glide and water resistance (hello, shower sex), not so great with silicone sex toys as they can break down. And hybrids? Generally a combo of silicone and water. We don’t stock any silicone lubes—yet—as we’re holding out for formulas that meet our strict standards for body-safety, ingredient integrity and sustainability. But as always, we’re keeping our eyes (and legs) open.

Let’s dive into our Margo’s approved edit of elite, locally-made lubes…
At Margo’s, we don’t just stock any old slip and slide. Every product in our lube edit is strictly vetted to meet our highest standards for clean ingredients, safety, sustainability, and ethos. That means:
No parabens, no glycerin, no petrochemicals or any other toxic ingredients.
No hormone disruptors. No BS.
Just natural, body-safe goodness that supports your pleasure, health, and the planet.
We only stock from independent, Australian-made brands—most of them based right here in Melbourne —that align with our values of transparency, integrity, and joyful self-connection.
This edit is the best of the best. No overwhelm, no “maybe” products. Just the ones we actually use ourselves. Because your body deserves nothing less.

So the main take away here?
Masturbation Month isn’t just a marketing moment — it’s a reminder that your pleasure matters. It’s personal, hormonal, playful, sometimes healing — and completely yours.
And while you’re showing up for yourself, make sure your lube is doing the same. Skip the sickly-sweet, sticky bottles from the back of the supermarket shelf. Glycerin? No thanks. At Margo’s, we do the hard work for you — curating only the cleanest, safest, most body-loving lubes made from ingredients your vulva would actually high-five you for. Because self-love should never come with a side of mystery chemicals.
So carve out time. Light a candle. Lube up. And remember: self-love isn’t selfish — it’s sexy.
